About This Webinar
Thursday 17 March 2022, 9:30 - 10:15
Farming has a long history of government subsidy and whilst the UK was part of the European Union that subsidy was governed under the Common Agricultural Policy with what many will know as the basic payment scheme. However, with the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, we have entered a period of transition where by the direct payments under CAP will be phased out by the end of 2027 and it will be replaced with a whole new system of environmental land management (ELMs) introduced in the Agriculture Act 2020.
This new system whilst it is being referred to as a replacement subsidy it is not being provided on a like for like basis and we see the introduction of a new farming system based on public money for public goods.
This webinar will provide an overview of this new system and how this might apply to charities operating within the agriculture sector. We will explore:
-
For those charities with investments in agriculture land how these changes may shape conversations with your tenants or land managers
-
We will touch on what other opportunities might be available to help maximise the financial return from rural land
This is a live event and there will be an opportunity for questions and answers on the day; if you wish, you may also forward your questions in advance to events@shma.co.uk.
Who Should Attend
This webinar will be of interest to charities and charitable organisations with agricultural land and/ or with objectives that centre around the furtherance of agriculture or horticulture.
