Gas & Electricity Networks

We have over 30 years’ experience working with electricity and gas networks

With over 30 years’ experience working with electricity and gas networks, our team has exceptional market expertise and offer market leading advice

Our experts are proud to have worked with networks for over 30 years. In particular, we’ve acted as National Grid’s principal external legal advisor since the early 1990s and are responsible for developing the balancing services contracts in use in Great Britain today for system security and balancing.

Since then, our work has broadened to encompass advising the regional distribution networks and the independent network operators through to helping the owners of the cross-border interconnectors with their commercial agreements. We’re proud to be true sector specialists.

Our work with gas and electricity networks sits at the heart of our energy sector practice

"If you own or operate power or gas networks, we can bring market insights and expertise to your business, and help you maximise the opportunities - and minimise the risks - associated with your operating your assets. We also have a strong record of supporting network owners in the management and disposal of non-operational land. "

Our regulatory specialists have a strong record track record within the energy sector, advising networks on a broad variety of issues

Electricity Codes & Balancing Services

Advising NGESO on the Nemo interconnector, and drafting a suite of  tripartite balancing services agreements between NGESO, Nemo Limited and Elia. We designed a simplified suite of documents, working intensively with NGESO to negotiate and implement these in time for commissioning. Click here to read more.

Gas & Electricity Interconnectors

We advised IFA and BritNed on the further development of their Access Rules and collaborated as an integral part of the team in the development by ENTSOe of the Harmonised Allocation Rules (“HARs”).  Our detailed knowledge of the Access Rules for IFA and BritNed proved invaluable in spotting areas of incompatibility.

Regulatory Issues

Advising National Grid on EU Network Code development and UK implementation options, through to implementation support.

Advising BritNed in connection with the further implementation of the Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management Guideline.

We’re proud to work with some of the largest gas and electricity networks globally
