Shakespeare Martineau has built on its Scots law offering with the appointment of a new partner to lead the firm’s banking practice in Scotland.

With more than 32 years’ post-qualified experience, Grant Docherty will also assist with driving the growth of the leading full-service law firm in Scotland.

Grant has a breadth of experience across all areas of banking, including real estate, acquisition, renewables, asset, investment fund, large corporate and project finance – working for banks and financial institutions, corporate borrowers, real estate funds, and banking regulators.

Prior to his new role, Grant spent more than three years running Rooney Nimmo’s banking team and almost 13 years as a partner heading up DWF’s Scottish banking practice.

Grant said: “Shakespeare Martineau is a fast-growing law firm with an extremely attractive high-performing, empowering culture. The firm is expanding and cementing its reputation in Scotland, which presents an exciting opportunity to play a significant role in developing the business in the country.

I enjoy working with clients to deliver results with minimum fuss and delay, and seeing the real-life results coming to fruition. I also thrive in playing a significant role in the development of junior team members and seeing them progress into more senior positions. I am looking forward to growing the banking practice and the broader capabilities of Shakespeare Martineau in Scotland.

Grant’s appointment comes after Shakespeare Martineau hired dual-qualified real estate legal director Nicky Grant in Edinburgh and welcomed Joseph Shields, its first ever Scottish trainee.

Amal Kaur, partner at Shakespeare Martineau (Scotland) LLP, said: “We are delighted to welcome Grant to the firm as a new senior appointment in Scotland. He has a wealth of banking experience and will be a great asset to our growing team as we look to expand our offering north of border. This is a very exciting time for Shakespeare Martineau in Scotland. We are continuing to provide tailored Scots law services to our clients and are investing internally in quality training to expand our resources.

Shakespeare Martineau is proactively seeking talented people to join the firm on its growth journey, including mergers, team recruitment and lateral hires nationally.
