We’ve been selected as legal advisor to Last Mile Infrastructure Group, a Glasgow-based utility expert.

Peter Dilks, one of our partners and a real estate energy specialist, skillfully led us through a competitive pitch process. After much deliberation, the firm was chosen for its range of knowledge covering the real estate and energy sectors, as well as its specialist expertise and national reach.

Providing gas, electricity and water to new residential and commercial developments, Last Mile Infrastructure Group works nationally alongside housebuilders, construction firms and independent consultancy companies to design, buy and build multi-utility networks.

As well as our excellent real estate energy know-how, Last Mile Infrastructure Group also admired our client-first ethos. We’ve created a bespoke online platform to help the business fulfil its instant access needs to legal materials and advice. This system streamlines the communication process and allows real-time information to be shared seamlessly between both parties.

The firm will be providing legal advice in a number of areas, such as leases, transfers of substations and easements for cabling. We have a strong legal presence in the energy market and have advised Last Mile subsidiary Energetics on commercial matters.

Last Mile Infrastructure Group has recently acquired another major player, UK Power Solutions. This will further expand the national reach of the business and add another independent connections provider (ICP) to its portfolio.

Peter Dilks, partner in our real estate energy team, said: “In recent years, Last Mile has been growing at a steady pace, emerging into the national eye. It’s a pleasure to be able to support them as they continue on this journey. A large part of Last Mile’s success comes from having identified that regeneration projects must expand away from working in silos, and that thinking holistically about utilities is the way forward for housing and commercial developments. An innovative take that is sure to help developments in the future.

“Our hard work truly paid off here, and this partnership is proof of the real estate energy team’s commitment and skill. We are certain the relationship will help to grow both our team and Last Mile’s reach.”

Matthew Collinson, Legal and Regulatory Affairs Director at Last Mile Infrastructure Group, said: “Shakespeare Martineau came out of the process as the clear leader. Their industry knowledge and understanding of our commercial objectives shone through both on paper and in person, and their delivery is matching up to their promise.”
