Lockdown: One year on

On 23 March, it will be exactly one year from when the UK first went into lockdown. We didn’t envisage that we’d be in a third lockdown one year on, but here we are again; although this time, there may finally be some light at the end of the long tunnel.

At our next episode of SHMA Talks, our CEO Sarah Walker-Smith will be in conversation with some of the UK’s most influential leaders reflecting on the past year, the impact on our economy and communities, and what we might expect in the future.

Professor Abhinay Muthoo
Professor of Economics and Dean of Warwick in London
Sarah Walker-Smith
Chief Executive, Shakespeare Martineau
Jenny Tasker
Head of International Clients, Santander UK
Professor Baback Yazdani

SHMA Talks

Sparking the debate of diversity in utilities

Sarah Walker-Smith and business leaders from Lucid Energy, EDF and Severn Trent Water

The recent pandemic has led to the government suspending the requirement for businesses to submit their gender pay gap reports.  However, for those businesses that have already done so – on average just 18% of those in the top pay quartile were women, compared to the national average of just over 40% - why is utilities lagging so far behind?

Please join us for our next episode of SHMA Talks with our CEO – Sarah Walker-Smith and business leaders from Lucid Energy, EDF and Severn Trent Water to discuss the issues of diversity and inclusion within the energy and utilities sectors, the lessons that can be learned from other sectors, and the opportunities and barriers as a result of COVID-19.
