Wales’ largest mental health hospital, Seren Gobaith, has been opened in Rhyl. The facility is already benefitting local residents who are now able to access much-needed support closer to home, providing 24-hour support, along with 62 beds for patients, and 250 jobs in the local community.

We worked closely with private healthcare provider, Ty Melyn Limited, from the outset of acquiring the site, all the way through to advising on the funding and development of the site. The firm provided expert guidance on all aspects of the planning process, construction, along with securing essential funding which led to an eight-figure package from HSBC UK.

The hospital has extended Ty Melyn Limited’s portfolio of healthcare facilities, which has primarily served elderly patients, and now stands at a total of five operational sites across Wales. With our support, the provider has now entered a new marketplace, plugging a gap in Wales’ healthcare offering by improving accessibility for mental health support.

With public sector treatment for mental health often involving extensive waiting times, this deal represents the opportunity, and pressing need, for the private market to bridge the gap where possible while these services are mobilised.

Joe Soul, commercial property and development partner said:

“With long waiting lists for mental health services in the news, supporting the opening of such a large facility has been incredibly rewarding. Advising throughout the journey on legal planning, construction, employment, through to securing the funding package, we ensured full support from beginning to end, providing a seamless process and expert guidance at every stage. We look forward to seeing Ty Melyn continue to go from strength to strength.”

Also key to delivering on the project with Ty Melyn Limited, and advising throughout the legal process, were Chris Gayle on banking, Anna Cartledge on planning, Laura Taylor and Dominic Suffolk on construction, and Desh Patel on development.
