Redrafting constitutions of universities and colleges, be that Instrument and Articles, Royal Charters or Articles of Association.
Structuring and setting up education joint ventures. For example, Mark has advised on over half of the country’s Institutes of Technology.
Advising UK based institutions on overseas collaborations varying from validation or consultancy arrangements to overseas campuses and double degree agreements. Mark drafted part of the Universities UK legal guide to international collaborations.
Providing governance advice to colleges and universities, ranging from training boards on charity law to carrying out detailed reviews of governance.
Supporting colleges with their subcontracting needs. More than forty colleges have used Mark’s subcontract and Mark advises on the regulation of subcontracting including fraud or financial failure of a subcontractor.
Advising higher and further education institutions on all kinds of group structures. Mark has set up colleges run by joint venture, colleges as a subsidiary of a university and universities as a subsidiary of a college.
Drafting Apprentice Employer Agreements and advising on the regulation of apprenticeships. Mark has drafted apprenticeship documentation for scores of universities, colleges, high street banks, utility providers, car manufacturers and high street brands.

Mark is an advocate for the provision of pro bono advice to those who could not otherwise afford it, having helped to run an award-winning advice clinic for fifteen years and acted as Chair of Birmingham Law Society’s pro bono committee.
Mark is a regular speaker at sector conferences and client training events on commercial, corporate and governance issues.
