We supported Smart Care Homes in taking a significant step in their growth journey with the acquisition of Mannamead Care, a group of four established care homes and an independent living unit in Plymouth, Devon.
The group operates residential care facilities across West Sussex. The deal more than doubles the company’s existing portfolio of properties and marks it first foray into the South West.
Previously operated by Phil and Tonya Gerry, who are retiring after more than 20 years of service, Mannamead Care includes Greenacres Care Home and Greenacres Independent Living in Pearn Road, Seymour Court in Glen Road, and Thorn Park and Charlton House in Mannamead Road. Combined, the care homes are registered to accommodate 156 residents, with the independent living complex housing 33 flats.
Asim Chaudhary, managing director at Smart Care Homes, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Mannamead Care into our family. Our priority is delivering exceptional, person-centred care in a home-like environment that encourages independence and wellbeing. This purchase reaffirms our commitment to the specialist care sector, and we look forward to building strong relationships with the residents, their families and staff.”
Roger Harcourt, corporate partner who led the deal, said: “This acquisition highlights the exciting opportunities in the care home sector for operators with a proven track record like Smart Care Homes. There continues to be a strong appetite from funders to back quality operators with plans for sustainable growth. It has been a privilege to work with Asim and his team on this deal, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on care provision in Plymouth.”
Our core team also included associate Emma Ali (commercial property and development) and solicitor Charley McEvoy (corporate). Financial due diligence was carried out by Richard Pitt at Hazlewoods.
