For some landowners and farmers, “paperwork” may not be at the top of their list of priorities. They may have forgotten to take out an insurance policy, it may have lapsed or they have misplaced documentation.
Given the nature of the work that takes place on agricultural land, it is inevitable that from time to time people get injured; whether that is carrying out a working practise that causes a back strain, or not operating a piece of machinery correctly, causing serious injury. These claims could cost hundreds of thousands of pounds in damages as well as potential County Court Judgments.
In the event that landowners or farmers face any type of personal injury claim and do not have an insurance policy in place they turn to solicitors to provide practical advice on what the risks to them are, what their prospects of success are should the injured person bring a formal claim and/or issue proceedings against them and the most crucial thing – in the event that they are not insured, how much is it likely to cost them to defend the claim, or settle it at an early stage.
Even if you have an insurance policy in place, you may want some independent advise before the insurers pass in on to their legal panel. In this webinar Ravinder Johal, partner in our Insurance team and Oliver Burns from County Insurance Services will guide you through:
