Talent boost for East Midlands planning firm

A Leicester-based planning firm has grown its ranks with the appointment of a new senior planner. Marrons Planning has brought in Lizzie Beresford to help meet growing demand for strategic planning advice in the region.

Lizzie was a member of both the development strategy and development management team at Rugby Borough Council for seven years before joining Marrons Planning. In her role within the local authority, she has gained experience across a range of contentious development management and strategic planning work, from conservation and heritage considerations and local plan-making to enforcement work and processing of planning applications.

Lizzie’s experience of local authority work is invaluable in her new position at Marrons Planning where she will be using her existing skills and knowledge to contribute to the continuing growth of the firm.

Marrons Planning is a specialist planning consultancy which forms part of law firm Shakespeare Martineau, offering strategic planning advice across a range of sectors. The team also work on contentious planning issues, including development promotion, planning applications and enforcement work for a varied group of clients.

Brian Mullin, partner at Marrons Planning, said: “ Lizzie has a fantastic reputation as a well-rounded planning professional with a wide range of experience and an in-depth knowledge of the planning system. Her skills and expertise will make her a real asset to our team, benefiting our current client base and continuing to drive growth at the firm in the Midlands and across the UK.”

Lizzie Beresford comments: “It’s an exciting time for the region, which is seeing a significant amount of investment and a flourishing development scene. Nevertheless, there are challenges ahead for the sector around the delivery of housing and the potential impact of Brexit.

“Joining Marrons marks the start of an exciting period for me and I look forward to delivering sustainable development and providing the best results for all of our clients.”

Lizzie will be based at the Leicester Meridian office of the firm, which also has planning consultants working in Nottingham, Birmingham, Stratford and London.

"This is exactly why we like to work with people who understand the industry and can identify potential issues and create solutions."
