Shakespeare Martineau, official legal partner for Commonwealth Games England, is supporting future cycling star, Kate Wootton.

Kate, 16, was nominated for a SportsAid award in 2017. SportsAid is a charity designed to help young sports people overcome the financial challenges they face in their bid to become Britain’s next generation of Olympians, Paralympians and world champions.

The Sportsaid award provided by Shakespeare Martineau will support Kate to fulfil her potential by helping her fund essential cycling equipment.

The partnership between Kate and Shakespeare Martineau forms part the firm’s health and wellness programme, Walk to the Gold Coast Challenge, through which their people are challenged to embark on a number of team-based activities designed to promote a healthier workforce.

The firm’s people were issued with step-monitoring Fitbit activity trackers to measure the success of various challenges that are being introduced in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast.

In one of the challenges, the firm’s London Real Estate team were ‘top steppers’ and were given the option of supporting a SportsAid athlete as a prize. The team chose to support Kate.

Danielle Cooper, real estate paralegal at Shakespeare Martineau’s London office, said: “We chose Kate as our chosen SportsAid athlete, as she appeared a very dedicated contender with exciting prospects. Her performance stats reflected avid determination and we were impressed with her achievements thus far.

“We all agreed that whilst all the athletes have made great achievements in their sport, cycling, in our opinion, is one which requires that extra personal endurance as a solo effort, as opposed to having the team support on a cricket or rugby field.”

Hannah Barrett, SportsAid’s Head of Fundraising, said: “We are delighted to be joining up with Shakespeare Martineau to support another talented, young athlete. By supporting these athletes Shakespeare Martineau is demonstrating their commitment to the future of British sport as well as providing young athletes with important support and recognition.”
