The Government has published the proposed rates for Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP), Statutory Adoption Pay (SAP), Statutory Shared Parental Pay (SSPP), Maternity Allowance (MA) and Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), which will apply from April 2019.

The proposed increases are as follows:

  • the standard rate for SMP, SPP, SAP, SSPP and MA will increase from £145.18 to £148.68 per week;
  • the rate of SSP will increase from £92.05 to £94.25 per week;
  • the weekly lower earnings limit (below which employees are not entitled to SMP, SPP, SAP, SSPP and SSP, but remain entitled to MA) will rise from £116 to £118.

The rates of these benefits usually increase each year in line with the Consumer Prices Index. This normally takes place on the first Sunday in April, which in 2019 will be 7 April.
