International Divorce FAQs

We've put together a short list of commonly asked questions to help you understand more about the international divorce process.

It is not possible to pick and choose which country to pursue your divorce in and for it to be able to proceed under UK law there are certain criteria to be met such as:

  • Both parties are resident in the UK
  • One party lives in the UK and has done for the previous six months.

Even if you live abroad at the time of starting or receiving divorce proceedings, if you or the other party is domiciled in the UK, UK law can be used.

Simple as the above may seem, it does not always apply so it is very important you contact our international divorce lawyers as soon as possible for advice
