Bernadette Hillman appointed Hon. Secretary and Solicitor to the Royal Town Planning Institute

Leading planning solicitor and partner at Shakespeare Martineau, Bernadette Hillman has been appointed Hon. Secretary and Solicitor to the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) from 1st January 2018. Bernadette has been appointed following the RTPI election in November .

Bernadette, partner and head of planning in the firm’s London office said: “I’m delighted to be elected as Hon. Secretary and Solicitor. I have been a Legal Member on the General Assembly of the RTPI for ten years and am looking forward to taking on this prestigious role for the next six years,  bringing my wealth of legal and planning experience to the Institute. Planning is such an important part of driving economic growth and at a time when planning is at the forefront of the governments agenda and to be solicitor and  secretary of this forum, advising on the development of its governance,  policy and practices is a real privilege.”

The Royal Town Planning Institute is the UK's leading planning body for spatial, sustainable and inclusive planning and is the largest planning institute in Europe  with 25,000 members in more than 80 countries around the world . The Institute publishes advice, guidance, reports and research; responds to Government policies and reports; it devises policy; it runs hundreds of events, including seminars and the Planning Convention, as well as CPD training and workshops and promotes its work and the planning profession to the media.
